Okletey Terlabi, Linda Ocloo, Ampem Nyarko Retained Slot As NDC Parliamentary Candidates; Jeff Carvianu, Kpessah Booted Out Again

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituents of Lower Manya Krobo, Hon Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi was re-elected to contest the 2020 parliamentary election for the party for the third consecutive time.

The NDC has on last Saturday, August 24, 2019 elected their Parliamentary candidates in some constituencies out of 275, as part of preparations towards the 2020 general elections.

Hon. Okletey Terlabi who joins parliament in 2013 from Lower Manya Krobo Constituency after several efforts in the Oforikrom constituency in the Ashanti region, polled 628 votes of the 1175 valid votes cast.

His close contender, Lawyer Lasi Koryo Benedicta polled 444 votes while Mr. David Tettey Kwame and Dr. Joseph Teye Nuertey obtained 35 and 68 votes respectively.

While Hon. Okletey Terlabi has been elected for a third contest, Hon.Thomas Ampem Nyarko bagged 872 votes giving him a second contesting right for the seat in Asuogyaman Constituency. Mr. Daniel Martey and Mr Nelson Hogbeda got 176 and 13 votes respectively.

Somewhere in Shai Osudoku, Dr. Michael Kpessah Whyte was heavily beaten by an incumbent female MP for the area, Hon Linda Ocloo by 534 votes against 263 votes. The former MP, Hon. David Assuming obtained 28 votes out of a total valid vote of 825.

But in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency, former Member of Parliament, Hon Jeff Tetteh Carvianu lost to Mr. Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, giving the latter a first time opportunity to bid for the parliamentary seat after the 2015 controversy leading to the party’s defeat to the NPP’s Joseph Tetteh.

In a six aspirants battle, Mr Bismark Nyarko polled 439 votes, 255 went for Hon. Jeff Carvianu. Meanwhile, the constituency Secretary, Mr. Francis Sackitey Madjitey bagged 126 to place third.

Mr. Evans Korli, Mr. Michael Oyortey and Mr. Jonathan Narh Nomo obtained 112, 5 and 3 votes in that order.

However, the total valid vote cast was 940, but total vote cast was 944.


The fate of Yilo Krobo Constituency and its three aspirants, Mr. Albert Nyakotey, Mr. Michael Ologo and former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Andrews Soda will be determined by an ADHOC Committee’s investigation report following a petition against Mr. Albert Nyakotey.

But at the National front, nine (9) sitting MPs including four 1st term ones have lost their seat through the primaries.

They are Hon Ras Mubarak of Kumbungu constituency, Hon. Amennga-Etego, Chiana Paga constituency, Hon. Aziz Abdul Muniru – Akan constituency and Hon. Eric Osei-Owusu of Afram Plains South – all first term MPs.

The rest are Hon. Francis Dakura (Jirapa), Hon Kwesi Asiamah (Buem); and was replaced by Mr. Kofi Adams, Hon Emmanuel Nii Okai Larye (Amasaman), Hon. Mathias Kwame Ntow of Aowin and the former Minister for Health, Hon. Joseph Yieleh Chireh of Wa West constituency.

 A total of eight women have so far found their way to make the NDC parliamentary candidates list for the 2020 elections.

New Abirem – Mavis Ama Frempong

Sunyani West – Millicent Amankwa Yeboah

The New Patriotic Party has also set September 28, this year for parliamentary primaries in its 106 orphan constituencies across the country.
