Ogome Anglican JHS commends Govt for hearing its ‘cry’

Following the ongoing construction work for six unit classroom block at the Ogome Anglican JHS for teachers and pupils, Mrs. Eugenia Dei who is the head teacher of the school, praise government as well the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly for their timely intervening assistance. 

Ogome Anglican J.H.S. is one of the 10 schools under Rite FM 2017/2018 District Education Observer Project II. Classroom infrastructure was part of the action plans drawn to be achieved by end of the project May, 2018. The STAR-Ghana support project with funding from Ukaid, DFID and DANIDA is expected to improve education in both infrastructure and academics in the Yilo Krobo Municipal.

Mrs. Eugenia Dei speaking to Morning Ride host, Captain Adabugar said her school lack office accommodation for storage, staff common room and also teaching in opened roofed and pothole classrooms. She said, the Kindergarten (KG) block was at a point in time used for storing school properties rendering the KG in school under tree.

The “hardworking headmistress” appealed through Rite FM and DEOP II team to the Municipal Assembly to put up classroom for the kindergarten pupils since their block is in poor state.

SMC and PTA Intervention

According to the headmistress, the School Management Committee and the Parent Teacher Association of the school have supported through contribution in the form of levies to repair broken doors and windows on the primary school classrooms. Other initiatives she commended the PTA and the SMC for are the speech and prize giving day, education week celebration, talent show and E-library that the school has added to it programmes to improve performance of the school.

She congratulated her PTA for their regularity and punctuality to PTA meetings.

Sanitation Problem

The entire Ogome community dump its refuse into a zoom lion container placed on the school compound. This, Mrs. Eugenia said makes it difficult for both teachers and pupils to live comfortable in school due to the sting produce by the refuse.

I am “calling on authorities to relocate the refuse container because the smell which comes out make me come to school without eating on compound,” she told Captain Adabugar Thursday Morning on DEOP II discussing segment.

Background

Sod was cut for the construction of 6 units classroom for Ogome Anglican J.H.S. Thursday November 2, 2017 by the MCE for Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly.According to the MCE, the contract was awarded by government of Ghana with funding from the European Uion (EU) and is expected to be completed and handover by close of 31st December, 2017.

The GHC 400,000.00 wealth contract was awarded to Meshiels MN&P Ghana Limited 21st October, 2017. Block work is ongoing at the project site the last time ritefmonlin.org visited the school.
