Ningo-Prampram DCE Donates 3-Unit Classroom Block On His Birthday

A 3-unit classroom block was commissioned and handed over to the Hearts of the Father Outreach Orphanage by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Ningo-Prampram District, Hon. Jonathan Teye Doku.

The construction of the building was initiated by the DCE in the year 2018 and sponsored by ENERCON GmbH and NEK Umwelttechnik AG, developers of the Upwind Konikablo Wind Farm.

The District Chief Executive saw the need for a classroom block for the youngest of the inmates during an interaction with the management of the Hearts of the Father Outreach and subsequently initiated steps towards its construction.

Lessons in the nursery and kindergarten levels are now planned in this building which hitherto took place in a multipurpose assembly hall.

With the sod cutting for the project coinciding with the birthday of the Assembly Chief in 2018, it is no surprise that its inauguration a year also has also coincided with his birthday.

The occasion brought together Assembly Members, staff and management of the assembly, businessmen, friends from the media and the general public.

The construction of the project was financially enabled by the companies ENERCON GmbH and NEK Umwelttechnik AG.

These companies develop as Upwind Konikablo Ltd., the Konikablo Wind Farm.

This wind farm is planned in the Ningo Traditional Area around Koni-Kablu. The area allows the installation of up to 58 wind turbines with a rated power of 3.5 MW each, what will bring an installed electrical capacity of 200 MW for Ghana.

The country will therefore play a pioneering role as the leading West African country to switch from the predominance of thermal and conventional energy generation systems to the generation of clean, affordable and sustainable electricity based on renewable sources.

The financial support of the classroom construction is part of Upwinds Community Investment Plan.

Community investments are an important component of the Konikablo Wind Farm’s Corporate Social Responsibility. It is intended to support more projects during its development phase and especially during the operation of the wind farm.

The companies behind the wind farm do not only want to develop clean electricity projects, but to give to the local population and especially to the local youths and for their families live perspectives.

ENERCON is one of the largest and most modern manufacturers of wind turbines world-wide and the biggest wind turbine producer in Germany. It played during the last 30 years a pioneering role in developing modern, efficient and reliable wind energy technologies. As per today, the company has installed almost 30,000 wind turbines around the globe with a total installed capacity in excess of 50 GW.

NEK Umwelttechnik AG is a Swiss engineering company set up in 1989.

The company is active worldwide in several fields related to renewable energy. It has a subsidiary in Accra which has been active since 2003.

Aside the Konikablo Wind Farm other wind farms are planned in the Greater Accra region. For example, the Ayitepa Wind Farm which is planned few kilometres west of the Konikablo Wind Farm has already received all required permits.
