A near fatal accident has occurred in front of the Rite FM premises in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo district of the eastern region that continues to see the truck with registration number GW 8194 Z laying on its side more than an hour and a half after the incident. At the time of writing the story, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Somanya police station, DSP Albert Delatsa and his men could still be seen clearing the mess which had taken over the entire road where the incident occurred.
According to eye witness accounts, the truck which ostensibly was entering the Somanya Township from the Koforidua end landed on its side when its U-clip containing the axle, broke causing the vehicle to land on its side. One of the eyewitnesses told this reporter how the driver who had jumped from the truck tried in vain to avoid the truck falling over him.
He said the trapped driver did not have to wait too long under the rubbles as the youth of Sra, a suburb of Somanya quickly managed to save him from under the wreckage. His other colleague meanwhile has escaped unhurt.
Two occupants including the driver and a colleague whose names were not immediately known were conveying quantities of assorted drinks into the Somanya Township from Koforidua when the accident occurred.
