NDC’s Veep Slot Plot Deepens

By Krobea Asante Ntomentwene Tofepa

Tension is gradually heating up within the ruling National Democratic Congress, as A group in the Volta region of the country is calling on his excellency president John Dramani Mahama to come out bold chested to name the speaker of parliament, honorable Edward Doe Adjaho as the running mate who will steer all affairs of the NDC to amass more votes and retain members of parliament and keep the president to his seat in the impending 2016 general elections.

It is quite unclear who probably the NDC’s Presidential candidate, John Dramani will name as his running mate even though parliamentary and presidential primaries were held on the 21st of November 2015.

A founding member of the Volta Youth for Development, Albert Elorm has advised the president to ignore his vice, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur and name the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho as his running mate for the 2016 elections. He made the pronouncements on the Rite Morning Ride Thursday Morning.

According to Elorm, many think their call for the replacement is tribally motivated which is virtually a wrong notion not to be accepted with any seriousness. “We are not sounding tribalistic but what we know is that the speaker is more experienced to handle affairs of running mate” he added.

In a development, Elorm said many promises were made in the 2012 manifesto of the NDC, many of which were not met due to the ‘inexperience and weaknesses’ of the current Veep. According to him, the elevation of Doe Adjaho can help fulfill all promises made by the NDC.

“Since Amissah Arthur is not performing, we need a replacement and this does not implicate that we want more for the Volta region,” he said. He said they were not the only people calling on the president to hear them out as many groups apart from Volta youth have backed their call.

He acknowledged that the power of choice rests with the president and that he hoped he listens to them.
