NADMO To Be Upgraded Into A Service

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) will soon be upgraded into a service.

NADMO’s upgrade will ensure that the Organization works and operates like other security services in

the country.

This was revealed by the Deputy Ranking Member of the parliamentary select committee of Defense

and Interior, Major Retired Derek Oduro.

He was speaking to Citi News after the launch of a report on the proposed independent Police complaint

commission by the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative.

NADMO has been struggling over the years to assist citizens in times of disasters; a situation some

believe has rendered the organization redundant.

Major Retired Oduro acknowledged that NADMO is not adequately resourced by government due to its

organizational status.

“If we upgrade it to a status of a service just like the Police Service, Prisons Service, it will be on its own

and therefore expand and become bigger than how we see it,” he said.

The elevation, according to Major Retired Oduro will help NADMO attract assistance from foreign

donors.

He also disclosed that the Defence and Parliament Committee has done due diligence and are expectant

that the bill seeking to convert NADMO into a service will be laid in Parliament soon.

“The Defense and Interior committee has gone out to assist them to draft the bill and when it comes, we

will approve it in Parliament,” he said.

According to him, the bill has already been approved by cabinet and “it will now come to Parliament and

once it is approved, it becomes a law.”

“When it comes to Parliament, we will not waste time at all,” he remarked.
