Murder Suspect Who Escaped From Lawful Custody at Atwima Mponua Re-Arrested In Somanya

A wanted fugitive suspected of murder at Atwima Mponua has been arrested at Somanya, it has emerged, where he had been in hiding after dramatically escaping from lawful custody at Atwima Mponua .

30-year-old Kingsley Odonkor, a farmer, escaped from lawful custody while in handcuffs after killing Kwabena Kyei, a cocoa clerk and bolting with seven thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 7,000) belonging to the victim.

Speaking to the Municipal Police Commander of Somanya, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Isaac Otsin, he revealed that his outfit had a tip-off that the suspect, who had escaped from lawful custody about a month ago and was subsequently placed on police wanted list, was hiding in Somanya.

He said the Somanya police upon intelligence, apprehended Odonkor in Somanya after the heinous crime at Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region.

ASP Oteng added that the suspect was hiding in a friend’s house at Ogome, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo municipality in the Eastern Region when he was apprehended.

According to him, the police unit at Sefwi Bibiani had been notified of the arrest and the suspect will be subsequently transferred to Sefwi Bibiani for trial.

ASP Isaac Otsin appealed to the public to assist the police by providing information to help reduce crime in the communities.
