The Member of Parliament for Buem, Daniel Akwasi Ashiamah has denied allegations of embezzling funds meant for development projects within the Jasikan District in the Volta Region.
An NGO, Portable Practical Education Preparation (PEP) has also petitioned the Speaker of Parliament and the Ho Regional Police Commander on the same issue.
But according to the MP, the partnership with the NGO was between 2011 and 2012. After which he has had no working relation with the NGO. Mr. Ashiamah also stated that he suspect some political influence.
“I assume that the things are a bit political and diabolical…these are issues in 2012 and I resigned from the company in March 2013 when I became an MP.”
Narrating the developments in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Ashiamah explained that he had only gotten in touch with the owner of the NGO, Dr. John David Arnold, in January 2013 when he together with the assistance of Nana Otimpong Otibribi III had secured a VISA to enable Dr. Arnold travel from Nigeria to Ghana.
The visit was also to enable the proprietor access to conduct reconnaissance on the proposed project.
The MP further revealed that Dr. Arnold disclosed of plans to refurbish the classroom in some schools within the Jasikan District.
Dr. Arnold is also on record to have pledged an annual commitment of 25,000 dollars for farmers within the area. A promise the MP insist were all negotiated with the Chief of the area in the United States.
Meanwhile, the NGO, according to the Mr. Ashiamah, had earlier on monitored and presented a report on the progress of the disbursements made hence he could not understand the sudden turnaround by the group.
The MP also expressed surprise at how one gentleman, Seth Ashiama, whom he referred to as his brother, was not being mentioned in the whole issue. He was however hopeful that he will be vindicated when the truth finally comes out.
