MOFA Director On Best Farmer Selection Criteria

Director at the Eastern Regional Ministry of Food and Agricultural, Mr. Fred Gyebi Twum has noted that they don’t just take interest in awarding farmers, rather, that good measures and proper investigations are put in place before selecting and rewarding deserving farmers.

According to Mr. Gyebi who was speaking on the Rite Morning Ride, the various districts have directors who also do the supervision in their jurisdictions before the nominations are done.

He stated that the major work is done by the Agric Extension Agencies since they have that cordial relationship with the farmers so that they do the underground work before presenting the report to the district which is then forwarded to the regional level and then finally to the national level, adding that they compare the report to that of last year before selecting.

According to him, the vastness or size of your farm is does not really come into consideration and that what is of utmost importance is how well the farmer keeps their farms. In this manner, a smaller farm with all the good farming practices stands a better chance than a bigger farm which is not properly kept.

Mr. Gyebi therefore stressed that in this manner, a farmer with a small farm but which is well kept qualifies to be selected, adding also that farmers who keep records of their daily activities on the farm also have great opportunity of being nominated.
