Member District Agric census committee inaugurated

The Asutifi District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region has inaugurated a three man District Management Team to be chaired by the District Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Mr. George Amanyoh for the implementation of Agriculture Census in the district.

The committee which is an initiative of  the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) in conjunction with the Ministry of Food and agriculture (MoFA) with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is aimed at documenting data on agricultural activities in the district from 2013-2017.

The census of Agriculture is a statistical operation covering the whole country and allows for the collection, processing, publication and dissemination of information on the structure of Agriculture and the state of development of rural areas.

Mr. Francis Dzah, The Census of Agriculture Coordinator of GSS in inaugurating the committee said, government recognizes the contribution of the agricultural subsection in economic and social development and is therefore making efforts to promote food production.

He stated that the programme was not only to highlight on nurturing of variety of food crops but provide the needed information base for environmental conservation and data to strengthen agricultural activities in the area for efficient and informed decision making by policy makers.

Mr. Dzah noted the committee will collect data from households, communities and district wide to access distances between communities and service providers of farm inputs to clients and therefore will adopt the modular approach of census where planning, core and modular data collection, data on crops, livestock, fisheries and horticulture are paramount.

He called on stakeholders to collaborate with the committee to discharge their given mandate by helping in publicity and education on the programme.
