MECHANISATION IS VERY IMPORTANT IN AGRICULTURE- PROFESSOR EMMANUEL BOBOBEE.

A Professor in the Agriculture Engineering Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Emmanuel Bobobee has said that, mechanization is very important in agriculture.

He further stated that, they are trying to make agriculture very comfortable for the farmers so that they (farmers) will stop using traditional tools such as cutlasses and hoes for farming. He continued by saying that the university has been successful in inventing an African cassava harvester for Africans.

The device was created with the African farmer in mind and also to help harvest rapidly, said Professor Emmanuel Bobobee. It can also be used to harvest when the ground is very hard. He added that the cassavas must be planted in rows and these rows must be widened to enable the device harvest smoothly and to prevent destruction of crops.

However, he made it known that, it is the duty of the Government to mechanize agriculture in the country, in order to increase productivity of the farmers. Also, the government must come in with the appropriate mechanization input and technology to make farming attractive and more pleasant to the youth.
