Manya Krobo Police Shooting Casualty, Ruth Makathar To Lose One Leg

News coming from the St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua indicates that, an 18 year old Ruth Makathar, who was hit by stray bullet during the Police and residents clash in Krobo Odumase, would have her left leg amputated today.

The student, Ruth Makathar, 18, preparing to write June 10, 2019, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) was shot in both legs with a stray bullet after she was caught up in the Police clashes with the agitating power consumers when returning from market.

One person was shot dead while six others including a 41 year Kortey Tetteh and Ruth Makathar who were later referred to St. Joseph Hospital have sustained severe injuries.

 Residents of Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region clashed with police over a mass disconnection exercise undertaken by officials of Power Distribution Company (PDS) on Wednesday 22nd May, 2019.

A sister and care taker of Ruth at the hospital, Peace has disclosed to Rite News, her sister’s left leg will cut off today Wednesday by Surgeons of the St. Joseph.

She further disclosed that surgery was successfully done on the right leg of Ruth, but the left leg according to doctor advice would be amputated to avoid further damages.

Ruth Makathar is a 3rd year Junior School Pupil of Odumase Anglican JHS preparing to write the June 10, 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) when she met her unfortunate injury.

Over 500, 000 Junior High School candidates across the country have begun a BECE June 10 and expected to complete Friday 14 June, 2019.

Meanwhile, family of 23 years Thomas Partey who was also shot dead following the incident are uncertain when the corpse would be buried.

According to the deceased father, Mr. W.O. Partey, the family is not satisfy with the autopsy report, since the report does not reveal what exactly killed the unfortunate young man.

The family has therefore petitioned the Ghana Police Service to conduct thorough investigation.
