Manya Krobo Overlord Cut Sod For Renovation Of Lorry Station; Tettey-Ku Gbadajdi Enstooled Chief For Asesewa

The traditional overlord and Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area has at last Friday hit the ground with mattock and shovel, paving way for the face lifting of the main lorry station in Asesewa market in the Upper Manya Krobo District capital.

His Royal Majesty Nene Sackitey II as part of his tour into the district, has also elevated the ragent of the Djebiam Division, Nene Tettey-Ku Gbadadji I as chief for Asesewa.

Nene Tettey-Ku until last Friday is the ragent for Djebiam Division and also acts in the absence of the the Paramount chief, Nene Sackitey II.

The paramount chief of the area, Nene Sackitey has embarked on a tour to meet his people in 3 main communities, Sekesua, Asesea and Akateng and their nearby villages to interact with them to identify and address the major developmental challenges facing the Krobo enclave.

Addressing the gathering, Nene Sackitey II wished a happy and successful new year to all his people as he entreat them to live in peaceful coexistence since the areas can only develop when there’s peace among them.

Nene Konor had task both the DCE and the MP, Hon. Felix Odjao Nartey and Hon Joseph Tetteh respectively to fast track the development of some road networks in the district capital by end of the year.

The Konor who is touring his jurisdiction for the first time in over 20 years has cautioned farmers in the area to take fire precautions serious to avoid fire outbreak which would end up burning farms.

The newly enstooled Asesewa chief, Nene Tette-Ku Gbadadji I during  a tour of  2019 Ngmayem campaign to Asesewa hinted that all Dadematseme in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area were going to be registered and certificated.

Nene Sackitey II has emphasized that the exercise was going to take off in the soonest possible time to give recognition and credential to the chiefs.

The overlord of Manya Krobo has urged parents to encourage their children to take advantage of government Free Senior High School Program and come out with successful passes in their West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

He disclosed that this call was as a result of his agreement with the University of Ghana, Legon to grant full scholarship to at least 15 Krobo Senior High School graduates from the 2020/2021 academic year.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency and former Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Joseph Tetteh addressing the gathering noted that government, has awarded contract for rehabilitation, including bitumen of 74 Km of road connecting the district capital.

Some of the roads the MP noted are Obuohoo through Nkankama to Asesewa road, Korlewa, Apimsu through Anyoboni to Asesewa road (work onging),Asesewa through Awaso to Odometar road, the entire principal routes in the Asesewa township and a 21Km from Akatewia through Bormase and Sekesua to Sumuer Junction.

The later which work is ongoing, the self-resigned deputy regional minister has vowed he will ensure the contract is cancelled and re-awarded to a different contractor following what he described as failure to meet contract time line.

According to him, the contract was awarded on October 2018 with expectation to be completed in February, 2020.

“The contractor has vacated site after he has graded the road. Even though I had insisted he shouldn’t be paid after he raised his first certificate, he managed his way through for which since he abandoned the project,” Hon Joseph Tetteh added.

The renovation and pavement of the main lorry station he mentioned was going to begin Monday immediately after His Royal Majesty Nene Sackitey is done with sod cutting.

In his submission, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon Felix Nartey Odjao said though he had inherited huge developmental deficit, the Assembly under his leadership is doing all effort to fill the space.

Creating layout belts through construction of new roads, connecting about 65 of the 254 rural communities in the district, drilling over 21 new boreholes for potable drinking water supply were some major development projects the DCE reported to have been doing within his 3 years stay in government.

The traditional entourage accompanying Nene Sackitey II, were Nene Tettey-Ku Gbadadji, Nana Aplam III, the paramount Queenmother,Nene Huapoyu – the senior linguist, Asafoatse Teye Huahuadjai, Jase Kpabitey Kwao, Nene Osom – chief for Akateng, Okyeame Kofi Osanyengmor, Lady Sophia – the wife of Konor and some queen mothers of the land.

Honourables Felix Nartey Odjao, Joseph Tetteh and some officials from the district assembly including the Coordinating Director have also welcomed the Konor on behalf of Government.

Chairpersons for the major political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Harizona and Alhaji Moro respectively and their supporters were also present to grace the occasion. Mr Bismark Nyarko, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the 2020 election was also present.

The Fashion Designers and Dressmakers Association, Beauticians Association among some other social groups were present with donations in cash and materials to honour the Chief’s visit.
