Manya Krobo Ngmayem Planning Committee Receives GHC10, 000 Support From Railway Dev’t Ministry

The Chiefs and people of Manya Krobo Traditional Area have this afternoon welcomed government entourage from the Ministry of Railway Development at the fore court of the Palace of Nene Sackitey II, Paramount Chief for Manya Krobo.

Led by the sector Minister and MP for Esikado constituency in the Central region, Hon. Joe Ghartey and his team, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo and some leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have paid a courtesy visit to the Krobo traditional rulers bearing some few weeks to start the 2019 Ngmayem Festival.

In support and solidarity to the traditional food festival (Ngmayem), Hon. Joe Ghartey through the MCE, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh presented cash of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC10, 000) and fourty boxes of assorted drinks to the Ngmayem Festival Planning Committee.

The treasurer for the committee, Hionor Manye Mamle who received the donations on behalf of the committee said, the items have come at the right time.

In his address, the Mr. Joe Ghartey briefed the gathering on the progress of work on the Tema-Impakadan Rail Line which passes through Okwenya and Kpong. He has assured work will be completed by June 2020.

His Royal Majesty, Nene Sackitey II expressed his gratitude to the government delegations, and appealed to the Railway Development Minister, Hon. Joe Ghartey, even though he (Konor) understands his (Hon. Joe Ghartey) busy schedules, his presence is highly needed for the Friday Durbar.

Among dignitaries who graced the event this afternoon were Nene Sackitey II, Hon. Joe Ghartey, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, Nene Asada Ahor, PRO for Manya Krobo Council and chief for Akuse, Nene Kpabitey Nyarko, chief for Kpong, Nene Tettey-Ku Gbadadji I, chief and regent of Jebiam and some queen mothers.

The rest are the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Jemaimah Apedu, some constituency executives of the ruling NPP and the participants from the public.

This donation marks the second major support the planning committee has received. The Volta River Authority (VRA) has earlier donated GHC5, 000 following a pledge it (VRA) made during the launching ceremony on July 5, 2019. Corporate Communication Officer of the VRA, Madam Rhoda Arthur who did the presentation on behalf of the institution has pledged further support to enable Neneme and people of Manya Krobo have a successful festivity.

 The Ngmayem Festival was launched on July 5, 2019 with a call on the people to unite in the interest of the development of the area.

The theme for this year’s festival, is “Culture, the bedrock for promoting unity and development”. It is schedule to take off 21st October and end 27th October, 2019 with thank giving church service at Lasi Park.

 Activities lined up as announced by the committee secretary includes   the festival, church service, clean-up exercise, games, Durbar of chiefs and people, holding of a Miss Yokama, a health walk and the performance of traditional rites by the Asafo companies to invoke their gods in preparation for the festival, visit to royal mausoleum and ancestral home on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
