Mango Farming Is More Profitable

Chairman for the Lower Manya Association of Mango Farmers, Mr. Edward Amanor has made it clear that mango farming is very profitable and cost managing as compared to other cash crop production in Ghana. Speaking to Mr. Edward on Rite FM’s Kuapa Yo, he said they were very happy they have been engaging in mango cultivation because the current season does not favour crop production. He said unlike such crops as maize, vegetable and their perishable crops, mango cultivation did not suffer that much.

He said in mango production, the crops have tap roots which draw water from the soil during dry the season which goes a long way to support their survival even in the absence of the rains. Mr. Amanor therefore advised farmers to adopt new methods of supplying water onto their farms during the dry season and urged those who are not ready for that to not to venture into farming in the first place since they stand the risk of running at a loss.

He further stated that the Fulani are destroying their farms which he said is intentional. He accused the nomads of leading their cattle to their farms at night to destroy all their mango farms. An incensed Mr. Amanor disclosed that though they will not attack the Fulanis in retaliation, he will not disclose what form their vengeance will take.

On whether or not they have reported the issue to the police, Mr. Amanor reiterated that they have but were told to arrest and bring the culprit cattle to the police station.
