Mango Farmers To Get A Modernized Market

By Catherine Ahiador:

Only a few days ago, mango farmers in the Dangme West, Lower Manya Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo, Shai Osudoku as well as Asuogyaman districts were asked to take advantage of a new Pack House in Akorley  as the newly constructed facility is intended to reduce the rot of mango produced in these areas.

But the farmers perhaps have another thing to smile about. Nana Opambour Bonsu, President of the Concerned Farmers Association who was speaking on Rite FM’s Agric Forum on Saturday has also promised mango farmers in these catchment areas of creating a modernized market and plan a market day for the mango farmers.

Nana Opambuor who was touched by the plight of most mango farmers in these areas, cited the example of the plight of mango farmers at a place like Obawale Habaso where mangoes are left to rot due to the poor road network leading to the area and which makes transportation from the farms to the market areas difficult or impossible.

In view of these difficulties, the president of the concerned farmers added that the new mango market would help farmers produce standardized fruits both for exportation and local consumption.

On petty mango traders, Nana Opambuor explained they won’t lose their jobs because they would be employed to work hand in hand at the park house.
