Honorable Gifty Twum-Ampofo, member of parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency who doubles as the deputy minister of Education in charge of Technical And Vocational Education And Training (TVET), has admonished all teachers to befriend their pupils to create enabling and friendly environment to foster teaching and learning process.
“Making the pupils your friends will enable them (pupils) to come out freely with their concerns and grievances for you (teachers) to help in addressing them for effective teaching and learning to promote national development” Honorable Gifty Twum-Ampofo.
She advised that, teachers of Kindergarten schools visit homes of their pupils if they (teachers) realise that a pupil has failed to report to school in at least two consecutive days, to avoid school drop outs since pupils are the most valuable resource of the nation. Periodic report regarding pupils attendance she said, teachers should make it core to promote teaching and learning.
Honorable Gifty Twum-Ampofo applauded teachers for embracing the new curriculum and believe teachers would contribute greatly to impact the life of Ghanaians.
As part of “My First Day Of School” tour on 10th Sept 2019, Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo visited schools in her constituency. She presented educational materials such as exercise books and magnetic alphabets for Kindergarten and basic one pupils together with assorted drinks and biscuits. She also gave out mathematical sets to the Junior Secondary School, form one pupils.
Honorable Twum-Ampofo advised the pupils to make their education a priority so they can benefit from the flagship free SHS programme introduced by the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP administration.
The Headmasters of the toured schools on behalf of the pupils, thanked the honorable member of parliament for the visit, words of encouragement and the materials presented. They pledged to make good use of the materials for proactive teaching and learning.
Among the schools toured were, SDA Basic School, Methodist Basic School, all in Akyem Osiem, Presby Basic School, Zion Basic School, Akyem Old Tafo, SDA Basic School, Methodist Basic School and M/A Basic School also in Akyem Kukurantumi.
Honorable Gifty Twum-Ampofo was accompanied by Honorable Owusu Twum-Ampofo, municipal chief executive of Abuakwa North, Mr Jeremiah Amoafo, Municipal Coordinating Director, Abuakwa North, Miss Abena Gyamerah, Municipal Director of Education, Mr Stephen Osei Wusu, Municipal Nadmo Director and other party functionaries.
