Macho Men Hijack NDC Office

THE CONSTITUENCY office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) situated at Community 2, Tema West, has been seized by stoutly-built (‘macho’) men, believed to have been hired by Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, national vice chairman of the party.

About 200 of the macho men, said to be foot soldiers of the NDC – some of who were wielding machetes and clubs – allegedly attacked supporters of candidates who had decided to contest in the parliamentary primaries of the party, especially Lawyer James Enu.

The irate youth who started the action on Tuesday, said they would continue to hold the party to ransom in the Tema West constituency until Mr. Ampofo had rescinded his decision not to contest in the race.

The Tema West NDC has been plunged into serious crisis, with the escalating internal wrangling which has led to accusations, counter accusations and assaults among supporters of the party.

As a result of the closed constituency office, parliamentary candidates there had run to the regional office of the party in Accra to file their nomination forms.

Two of the aspirants – Mr. Bill Boglo-Hedo, a communication consultant and Lawyer Enu – had filed their nomination forms at the regional office to meet the September 9, 2015 deadline.

It would be recalled that on Monday the Tema West constituency office of the ruling party was locked over the decision of former parliamentary aspirant, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, not to contest in the upcoming NDC primaries.

Leader of the group, Eklu Nazar, who is also the branch chairman of the party at Sakumono, speaking to DAILY GUIDE at the office – where they had turned into their new home –  said the NDC could not win the seat if the now vice chairman of the party did not run in the 2016 elections.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo, who was defeated in the 2012 parliamentary election by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, has said he could not contest the seat again because of equally important roles he is currently playing at the party’s head office as director of election and vice chairman.
