MAASI’s Engagement has created Good Links – Dr. Charles Etse

By: Elizabeth Frimpong:

The Director of Agric. at Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, Dr. Charles Etse on Tuesday October 4, 2016 during Rite 90.1 FM morning ride segment; ‘’Feed the Future Platform’’ revealed that, the Rite 90.1 FM’s MAASI (Mobilizing Action towards Agricultural Sector Improvement) funded by the USAID/Ghana Feed the Future Agricultural Policy Support Project has created a very good link between the Department of Agric., the Agric. Subcommittee and the farmers through their engagements.

According to him, the department had the opportunity to engage the farmers in their District and orientation workshop for the Agric. subcommittee which was funded by the MAASI project and some of the key issues raised by the farmers after engaging them were as a result of inadequate training and demonstrations. He said, the 2017 plan and budget will be of more trainings and demonstrations to help solve some of their challenges.

He further explained that, when the farmers form groups or association, it will help them to market their produce at a required price and also will have access to farm inputs and other materials. He also pleaded with the Agric. subcommittee as part of their duty to lobby well for the approval of the proposed budget of the department.

Dr. Etse however cleared the air that the criteria for selecting the best farmer is not done through lobbying or politicization but rather hard work and good relationship with the Extension Officers. He encouraged the farmers to work hand in hand with the extension officers to receive training and guidelines for their farming activities.
