Local Rice Now Enjoying Improved Patronage

The bane of local rice farmers in the country has been about poor or low patronage in preference to the imported brands. However, there appears to be some appreciation in the patronage of the locally produced rice. In this regard, the Executive Secretary for the Ghana Rice Inter-professional body, Mr. Evans Sackey has commended the higher level of patronage Ghanaians have shown towards the purchase of local rice at the expense of its foreign counterpart.

According to Mr. Sackey, the patronage has increased drastically in recent times. He said some of this locally produced rice was distributed at the ministries which is a good start in order to boost the purchase of locally-produced rice.

He added that, this entire boom in the purchase of the local rice came about as a result of the rice festival which was held recently to promote the image of the locally produced rice in the country. In respect of this many Ghanaians are fervently demanding for the local rice.

He later advised Ghanaians to patronize the local rice as this would further increase the revenue of friends, relatives and the general public who are involved in the production of local rice. He said the more the purchases increased the more it would help save the financial position of the economy since more dollars will not be needed to buy foreign rice.

He said the foreign rice are preserved with chemicals which can cause harm to the individuals in latter years while the local rice is free of these preservatives.
