Konor of Yilo Krobo to Create Educational Fund to Help Brilliant but Needy Students
The Konor of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaa Sasraku II has pledged his commitment to the establishment of an educational fund to support the brilliant but needy students in the area to improve on education and enhance development in the municipal.
Nene Oklepeme in his key note address during the Silver Jubilee (25 years) celebrations of the Yilo Kloyosikplemi festival observed that “education is the key to development for every developed country” which implies that education is an important tool that needs attention.
The Konor bemoaned the sorry situation of academically sound students who have no financial support to further their education, a situation which invariably leads to them dropping out of school
“Some students are very good academically but there is no support for them which results in them dropping out of school and engaging in menial jobs in order to earn their living while others also engage in social vices which negative impact on the community tarnishes the image of the traditional area and the country as a whole,” the chief lamented.
He however ascribed these ills to the lack of funds to push such affected children through the educational ladder which he described as ‘necessary.’
Girl child education
Nene Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaa Sasraku II also underscored the importance of girl child education and said its pursuit becomes a matter of interest.
“The account will also see to it that girl child education also becomes of supreme interest in the traditional area. This is because women play an important and substantial role in national development,” he stressed.
According to him, poverty will not be a hindrance to proper education in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area.
“We will not sit down for the academically sound to sit at home all because they are not fortunate to come from a financially sound home which has become a hindrance to their education. We will do everything within our power to improve on education in the traditional area,” he promised.
The account, Oklepeme further noted, will also support women who want to start up their business and therefore launched an appeal to all to support this laudable idea to promote and to transform Yilo Klo to bring development.
Nene Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaa Sasraku II further assured his people of his commitment to the development of the traditional area and promised not to disappoint them.
“I will not disappoint Yilo Klo in my reign as Konor of Yilo Klo. I pray to God to enable me to always humble myself during my reign as Konor and listen to Him for direction and also listen to my people” he stated.
History was made when the people of Yilo Klo led by the Konor, Nene Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaa Sasraku ll successfully celebrated this year’s Kloyosikplemi Silver Jubilee festival which was climaxed with a durbar at the Akutunya Lorry Station in Somanya.
The grand durbar which was massively attended by well-wishers, saw a display of rich Krobo culture and tradition and also brought together many dignitaries.
