Juabeso Cocoa Farms Under Siege from Millipedes

Strange millipedes have invaded Juabeso cocoa farms in the Bonsu Nkwanta area of the Juabeso district of the Western region. This has resulted in the community members living in fear as the strange creatures continue to invade the communities without an end in sight.

Some of the affected commuties are Prosohene, Nkwanta, Djato, Helehele, JJ Nkwanta, Dangermu and Fantraline. The activities of the millipedes, according to the farmers have resulted in them facing difficult times in their farming activities.

This according to them is as a result of the millipedes taking over their farms as well as their homes including kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. The farmers lament that their crops have not been spared the invasion as the millipedes end up destroying them in the process.

The cocoa farmers have therefore called on the government and other relevant stakeholders to come to their aid before it is too late. According to them, two of their kids lost their lives last year after mistakenly eating the millipedes.

Reacting to the incident, Member of Parliament for the area, honourable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh confirmed the incident to Rite news. According to him, the huge numbers of the millipedes made the fight against eradicating them difficult.

He said the district was collaborating with health officials on ways to combat the invading millipedes, adding that some chemicals were being used to fight them in the meantime.
