I remain focused on winning 2016 election – Nana Addo

Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the entire membership of the party that in spite of the happenings within the party, he remains focused on the task of ensuring an NPP victory in the general elections of 2016.

“I want to assure you. I am remaining focused on the main goal, which is to win the 2016 election. I am not going to allow myself to be distracted. I was elected to do one thing, which is to mobilise the people of Ghana for an electoral victory for the NPP. I remain focused on that main task,” he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo made this known on the final day of his three-day tour of the Eastern Region, where he addressed party faithful in Koforidua.

The NPP flagbearer noted that, in recent times, some members of the party seem more concerned about doing damage to fellow members on the media landscape, instead of holding the Mahama government accountable.

“That’s why I have asked that the radio campaigns about our internal matters must cease. If NPP people go to the radio, let them go and point out what is wrong with the NDC and our country. That should be our duty as an opposition party, to point out and hold the government accountable. Point out the miserable performance of the NDC that is encouraging some people to say they have a ‘one touch’ victory in sight. We should be exposing that,” he stressed.

On the matter of party finances, which has taken a centre stage in the media, Nana Akufo-Addo told the gathering that, three weeks ago, a 5-man committee, made up of competent, capable, independent-minded high-ranking party members, was instituted to investigate the issues and report back to the party at a National Executive Committee meeting.

He, therefore, expressed surprise that the matter is now being played out in the public space.

“We are using the structures of the party to deal with the matter. That is what we are doing. So I’m asking everybody, let’s respect it. Even senior members in our party, like the redoubtable Kennedy Agyepong, I am pleading with him, let us stop the radio outbursts on our internal issues, and let us move on with the task of winning the next election,” Nana Akufo-Addo added.
