‘I regret sacking Polo’

Accra Hearts of Oak Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV says he regrets not giving former coach, Mohammed Ahmed Polo enough time before sacking him.

Mohammed Polo was appointed interim coach after David Duncan was dismissed as the head coach of the club but was not given a full time appointment after the 2013/14 league season even though the club placed third at the end of the season.

The Board Chairman, at the Annual General Meeting of the stakeholders of the club described the ‘Dribbling Magician’ as a deep thinker and he regrets not giving him the chance to continue his good works as a coach.

“My biggest regret is not allowing he (Polo) to continue as our head coach when his six month deal expired”, he told reporters.

“Polo as a coach is a deep thinker and one of the best coaches l have worked with during my time as the Board Chairman just that he was never allowed to do his work. He worked under very difficult situations or circumstances. And he is also one of our own”, he added.

“There were threats to seize our team bus; there were attempts by the supporters to distract the team from training but who could work well under these circumstances?

“We never allowed the company and club to benefit from one of our own (Polo) and I regret it”.

Aside Mohammed Polo, Togbe Afede has worked with C.K Akonnor, David Duncan and Herbert Addo during his tenure as Board Chairman for Accra Hearts of Oak.
