Human Activities Responsible For Climatic Change – MOFA Director.

The Director of Agriculture in the Nkwanta South District in the Volta region, Mr. Ayertey has said that human activities were the main causes of climatic change in Ghana. That according to him, deforestation has now become a phenomenon among Ghanaian farmers where they have cut down almost all the big trees in the forest.

Mr. Ayertey explained that, we live in a country where our forests have been taken over by Estate developers and chain saw operator and they End cutting down all the trees living the land bare, and that has contributed to change in weather condition.

Giving example, he said it doesn’t happen before in the history of Ghana whereby in September, no single rain drop rain water is recorded for farmers to plant their crop. He stated that, the climatic change had already set in, we need to put up concreat mechanism to reduce the change in the weather condition, indicating that governments needs to construct irrigation serve as a sources of water supply for the farmers.

He further mention that industry player in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture MOFA should develop drought resistance crop that can withstand any weather condition. He said farmers should also be Educated on the dangers of cutting down trees and the negative impact it will have on our farming season.
