Human activities causing reduction of wildlife

The Executive Director of wildlife Division of Forestry Commission, Nana Kofi Adu Nsiah has advice the general public to desist from their bad attitudes that lead to the destruction of wildlife.

He said human practice like bush fires, improper hunting, galamsey operations as well as the activities of estate developers cause reduction of wildlife.

Nana Kofi Adu Nsiah, who made this known to Rite FM News in an interview stated that the wildlife contributes significantly to the cultural and socio- economic development of all nations and wildlife conservation is therefore a national obligations. Adding that some countries had exploited these non-consumptive uses of wildlife to demonstrate of this natural heritage to their respective national economies.

He outlined the importance of wildlife as a critical source of foreign exchange earnings through tourism activities.

Nana Kofi therefore appealed to the public to change their attitude towards wildlife, particularly from indiscrimination logging, which lead to illegal hunting and rapid habitat loses of animals.

He called for a collective action to address the challenge through advocacy and public education to protect Ghana’s wildlife.
