The 2015 National Best District Forestry Manager who is also the Nkawie District Forestry Manager, Nana Opoku Bosompe has called on the need of Government bodies like the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Minerals Commission, etc to put in place persistent monitoring of activities of small scale miners popularly known as galamsey.
Mr. Bosompim said the canker if not addressed will lead to the destruction of the country’s forests. The district Manager made this known as he held a rapid response team to monitor activities of galamsey operators which led to the death of two people at Atwima –Seidi last week.
He said they were committed to fighting the menace the hard way including resorting to the seizure of equipment used by the galamsey operators and called on all stake holders to come on board to fight this menace.
