Gov’t urged to construct more irrigation facilities to adapt climate change

The chief executive officer for National Food Buffer Stock Company, Mr. Eric Osei Owusu has as a matter of urgency  called on  government to implement more irrigation facilities to boost agriculture else Ghana as a country will soon hit hunger.

Mr. Osei who was responding to the 2014 National Best farmer Mr. George Asamoah Amankwah alerting the government to take proactive measures to prevent a possible maize shortage because of the low rainfall in large scale maize growing areas added that, constructing more irrigation dams can help produce more crops like maize without depending on the natural rainfall.

According to him, when the maize become scarce, they cannot store more of them in stock and this can lead to hunger in the country.

Mr. Osei has also advocated for training the farmers on the weather pattern in order to cope with it and anytime they want to start planting crops.
