Government Urged To Construct Irrigation Dams For Farmers

Recent climate changes have not been the best, a situation that has largely affected the rainfall pattern, resulting in poor rainfall and low crop yield, a situation our farmers can’t stop complaining and lamenting about.

This has also affected the small scale farmers badly which has led to farmers losing most of the farm produce. In view of this, the finance and administrative officer for the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, Mr. Sani Mohammed has called on Government to construct irrigation dams to support the farmers and grant them access to water so that they do not solely depend on the rain fall.

He noted that usually farmers in the country solely focus their attention on the natural rain which he said will not enhance their farming activities. Mr. Sani explained that developed countries that are serious about agriculture production have whether insurance packages for their farmers. This according to them assists them to revamp their farms when affected by climate change, adding that our Government can equally pick up these initiatives for the betterment of the fortunes of our farmers.
