Akuafuo Mma, a pressure group which claimed to be committed to the well-being of Ghanaian farmers, has expressed with disdain the manner in which farmers have been treated by successive government. Mr. Kwabena Agyapong in an interview with Rite FM said, successive governments has touted themselves with free or subsidize fertilizer prices to farmers as worth celebrating.
“Every government has limited the need of farmers to fertilizers. The previous NDC government said they distributed fertilizers for free. The current NPP government is also subsidizing fertilizers,” he stated.
Mr. Kwabena who is the secretary of Akuafo Mma has on the other hand, appealed to government to provide storage facilities to the farmers to enable them store crops in case of bounty harvest. This in his opinion will avoid selling at a cheaper price and also give farmers the confidence to determine prices for their produce.
“Agriculture is very essential in our country. It also employs about 70 per cent of our working population but it is unfortunate agriculture sector has been neglected,” Mr. Agyapong added.
