Globalgap Tour 2015 Comes Off In Accra

GlobalGap, the world’s leading farm assurance program, translating consumer requirements into Good Agricultural Practice, as part of its 2015 Tour, held a seminar yesterday at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra which was aimed at building the capacity of farm producers across the country. Various speakers including Christi Venter, a product development expert from Germany, Flavio Alzueta, Vice president and chief marketing officer of Globalgap based in Argentina, Mr. Leon Mong as well as Ghana’s Director of Crop Services at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture who chaired the event and also sat in for sector minister, honourable Fiifi Kwetey, took turns to address participants.

Flavio Alzueta told Michael Oberteye of Rite FM and ritefmonline.org that the main of his organization which is a non-profit making entity is to link buyers with producers worldwide. He said Ghana was the 6th country Globalgap was operating in and the only in West Africa. He said there were currently some 173 certified producers in Ghana and it was his aim that this number shoots up.

He said Globalgap is present in some 50 countries with about 160000 producers worldwide

Alzecueta told Rite news that they are very satisfied with the turn out of the even which saw some 150 participants from Ghana, the sub-region and other European and American countries show up to grace the event.

Elaborating on a training session to train what they call Farm Assurers which is a network of consultants, Mr. Alzueta said Farm Assurers are people who would be trained to work for and with producers. He said a four day training session was currently ongoing at the Fiesta Royale hotel for would be farm assurers. He said at the end of the session an examination would be conducted where successful trainees would become certified assurers.
