Global Panel Lunch Child’s Nutrition Policy Initiative

The Global Panel is an independent group of influential experts with a commitment to tackling global challenges in food and nutrition security. The panel made up of former heads of state and other heads of organizations across the world is working to ensure that Agriculture development and food system, support access to nutrition foods at every stage of life.

In view of this the Global Panel in collaboration with the John Kufour Foundation has launched the Healthy Meals in Schools Policy at a press conference held at Accra to reiterate the importance of providing naturally balanced meals in schools.

Speaking at the program, the Former President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor said it was through nutrition that our well-being could be secured. Unfortunately, people living in Africa don’t have access to good nutrition and “this is what the Global Panel is set to work on,” he said.

He further stated that Africa has suffered so much from diseases, poverty, unemployment and inattentiveness on the part of school children as a result of lack of nutrition “so this is the time for African leaders to ensure that agriculture and food system is improved to provide the necessary nutrition in their countries,” he explained.

The Co-Chairman for Global Panel, Professor Sir John Beddington mentioned that the school feeding program when implemented well will improve school performance among children because they can get access to the required nutrition that support healthy growth as well as improve farming livelihood since it’s a value chain system initiative.
