GHS, FHI360, Novartis Foundation mark World Hypertension Day

The Ghana Health Services (GHS) in collaboration with FHI 360 a non-governmental organization, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana mark this year World Hypertension Day on 17th May 2015 on the theme “Know your number” at the Lower Manya  Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.

Rite FM in an interview with the Technical Advisor to FHI 360, Mr. Richard Ofori Asenso noted that, World Hypertension Day is a special day set aside to create awareness about the need for a person to know his hypertension status.

Mr. Ofori Asensu stressed that, Ghana Health Services, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana are partnering with Novartis Foundation and FHI 360 to roll out a three year project  called Com- HIP( Community Based Hypertension Improvement Project ) aimed at creating awareness and also improving the control of hypertension by making services more accessible in the community while empowering individuals to control their hypertension level in the lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

He also noted that, Hypertension is a major cause of stroke; heart attacks and heart failures among several others and all these are extreme life changing events. He therefore advocated for the need for everyone to know his Hypertension number.
