Ghana’s Quest For Economic Freedom And Dvelopment Rests On Agriculture – Paramount Chief

The Paramount Chief of the Amansie Traditional Council, Nana Bi Kusi said the country’s economic transformation and the infrastructural development depends on agriculture; thus lauding the president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo for his contribution towards agriculture.
According to Nana Kusi, residents in the Amansie enclave in the Ashanti Region no longer worry their heads over mining or galamsey, “thanks to the pragmatic and effective implementation of the government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme”.

According to the Paramount Chief of the Amansie Traditional Council, Nana Bi Kusi, the government’s PFJ programme has come in handy for his subjects, stressing his people no longer worry themselves over the collapse of the galamsey business.

“Today, my people are okay because many of them have taken to farming and have adopted the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, which is working for them. We have forgotten about galamsey,” cheerfully looking Nana Bi Kusi noted.

The Paramount Chief, who made the remarks, when the President and his entourage paid a courtesy call on him , commended the President ant the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, for the effective and efficient implementation of the PFJ programme which he said had revived the agrarian economy in his area.

Nana Bi Kusi emphasized that, he was very happy about the progress made so far since the NPP government assumed power in 2017.

“I want to encourage you and your government to continue to invest in agriculture because it’s the only way that Ghana can achieve economic independence. I want to commend your able Minister, Dr. Akoto, who is also a good friend of mine for his contribution towards the agricultural sector,” Nana Bi Kusi added.

He said the Amansie enclave almost lost its position as one of the major food baskets in the country due to the activities of illegal mining but since the introduction of measures by the current government, the area had witnessed a major turnaround.
“Now food is in abundance here, and I can tell you that my people have embraced the PFJ programme.”

Nana Bi Kusi however called on the President to address the numerous road infrastructure challenges in the area in order to improve the economic activities of his people.
