Ghanaians asked to support agricultural census

The Government Statistician, has appealed to Ghanaians to support the census agriculture(CA) management teams established across the country, to collect, process, publish and disseminate information on the state of agricultural structures in the rural areas.

The project is being sponsored by Ghana Statistical Service in collaboration with Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Dr Philomena Nyarko, also Project Director of the CA, made the appeal in an address delivered on her behalf by Dr Abdul Razak Okine, a member of the National Bureau of the CA.

Dr Okine joined the Central Regional Management CA Team, to inaugurate a three-member CA team for Awutu-Senya East at Kasoa.

The team is under the chairmanship of Mr Ibrahim Ahmed-Rufai, Municipal Coordinating Director.

Other members of the team are; Mr A. K. B. Deyang, Municipal Director of Agriculture and Mr Isaac Adza Tettey, Municipal Planning Officer.

They have been tasked to provide guidelines and logistics for recruitment and training for field personnel for the implementation of the CA in the municipality.

Dr Okine said the CA would produce reliable annual agriculture data through surveys in order to strengthen and improve the national agriculture statistics system.

This would enable policy makers to get the right information to identify, prepare, implement and evaluate development projects.

He said the four-year roll-over project, which was started in 2013, is being implemented in four phases in line with ‘modular approach’ recommended by FAO.

Dr Nuhu Adams, Municipal Chief Executive, who was the chairman of the occasion, expressed the hope that the team would work harder to provide accurate data for the smooth running of agricultural policies in the municipality.
