Ghana Police warns pastors over illegal use of officers as bodyguards

The Ghana Police Service has lashed out at “religious leaders, businessmen and other influential personalities” over their “unathorised” use of personnel as “bodyguards, security guards and escorts.”

According to a statement signed by Director-General, Administration Rose Bio Atinga, the Service will not shield anyone found culpable of the act.

The statement revealed that “currently the Police is investigating a case where a Policeman has been found to give guard services to a religious leader without authority.”

“The Police Administration wishes to state that such engagements are unlawful… While appropriately dealing with the issue in respect of personnel of the Service, the Police Administration wishes to advise the public to desist from such unlawful engagements.

“Persons with peculiar security concerns should contact the appropriate Police authority for the necessary action,” the statement added.
