Ghana Marks 59th Milestone – From Our Correspondents

Ghana’s 59th independence celebrations were marked across the length and breadth of the country on Sunday the 6th of March, 2016. Rite FM wasn’t left out of the event as our correspondents marked the anniversary with some surrounding districts.

YILO KROBO:

In the Yilo Krobo municipality, Rite news’ Catherine Ahiador reports that the 59th anniversary parade was held on the premises of the Yilo Krobo Senior High School, YIKROSEC.

The programme which began around 8:16am was held under the theme ‘Investing In The Youth Of Ghana For Transformation.’

A number of notable dignities graced the occasion. These included the honourable Andrews Soda, Municipal Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo, Mr. Nkansah Abednego, constituency chairman of ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nene Ayertey Ayiborku, member of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council) and many others.

The parade included the school cadet of YIKROSEC who exhibited a lot of skills, as well as several primary school pupils, Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools who marched to the admiration of the enthused crowd who had gathered at the parade grounds to witness the event.

Some schools that partook in the march past included the Amazing Grace school, Vision Academy, Somanya  Presby, and Somanya Methodist among others.

ODUMASE KROBO:

At the Laasi Park at Odumase-Krobo, Mary Dompreh Reports that a number of schools were present to be part of the event. Some of the schools that turned up included the Mount Mary Demonstration School, St. Bakhita Senior High School, Odumase Presby Primary, Sammer Royal Academy, Faithful Academy, Krobo Girls, Manya Krobo Senior High School, Akro Senior High School among other schools.

The Member Of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya constituency, hon Okletey Terlabi spoke on the theme. He talked about the construction of a two storey block at the Manya Krobo Senior High School as well as other projects ongoing in other schools in the constituency.

SHAI OSUDOKU:

In the Shai osudoku district in the Greater Accra region, Dorothy Serwaah reports that the event was held the Ghanata Senior High old school park. Many schools took part in the procession including the Dodowa  Pressby ‘’A’’ basic school, Dodowa  Presby ‘B’, Dodowa New Town Basic School, St Agnes RC Primary, Tower of David Academy, Living Grace Academy, Lizalex Academy and many more.

Many dignitaries were presence including the DCE of Shai Osudoku, Hon Emmanuel Odei Nartey.

ASUOGYAMAN:

In the Asuogyaman district in the Eastern region, the 59th anniversary was observed at the Akosombo Lorry Park.

Notable figures joined school children from across the district to mark the day. Figures such as the honourable  Apem Darko, the DCE for Asuogyaman took his turn to express his satisfaction at the fact that the country had come a long way in age. He took the opportunity to urge peace and tranquility in the country while spelling out some of the modest works undertaken by the district.

Traditional leaders were not left out. Nana Otwira II of the Asugyaman Traditional Council urged the public particularly, the electorate to maintain the peace this election year and not allow themselves to be influenced by money into voting for one party or the other. He urged the electorate to instead vote for the politician who has the will to do the job.

Some casualties who collapsed during the course of the event were recorded at the various centers.

The event equally involved displays by security personnel including police fire service, immigration, the Red Cross, Zoomlion, etc.
