Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Holds AFRICA SCIENTIFIC RENAISSANCE DAY And AFRA 30TH ANNIVERSARY DAY.

The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission in collaboration with Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation held a business forum which was also the celebration of the Africa Scientific Renaissance Day.

Speaking to the Deputy Director of BNARY at Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Micheal Osae said the theme for this year forum is transforming Agriculture towards the Ghana beyond Aid Agenda. He said this forum is part of Africa Scientific Renaissance mainly for business and it celebrated every year by the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology. This include inviting Auditors, the Media and other stakeholders to present a new technology developed using nuclear techniques.

He added that, the importance of agriculture and the role of science and technology in country development cannot be overemphasized .In the first place, agriculture offers employment to a greater number of the Ghanaian population and African as a whole. The use of modern technologies therefore has the capacity to transform the agriculture sector and livelihood of many on the African continent as well as boost food production to unprecedented levels, if food security issues in our sub region are resolved.

The General Secretary for Apex Farmers Organization of Ghana, Mr.Samuel Annan also disclosed that a meeting with his executive members would organized to enable them discuss a sensitization program that would be organized for farmers. According to him, zonal meetings would be going on whereby leaders would be invited to enable them talk to and educate farmers. He said their only challenge is the availability of quality seeds for farmers to produce more food for consumption, secondly, the situation of whereby people fight of lands issues is also a challenge.

He continued that, this program has educated them on how to curb the fall army worm which is their biggest challenge most of the foods in Ghana are produced from maize, therefore it will be a biggest problem if this disease takes their maize farms. However the government is helping to distribute chemicals to every district to help fight the disease.
