Fisheries Ministry To Collaborate With VRA To Deal With Aquatic Weeds

By Austin Ofori:

Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mrs. Sherry Ayittey will join hands with the Volta River Authority, VRA to remove aquatic weeds from the Volta Lake in order to boost fish production in the country.

Madam Sherry Ayittey made the comment when she met fisher folks at Akateng in the Upper Manya Krobo district in the Eastern Region in an interaction with the media. She maintains that the removal of the troublesome aquatic weeds is a solemn responsibility of the VRA. This according to her is because they have the prescribed equipment to deal with it.

‘After a meeting with the fisher folks at North Tongu, the ministry had a meeting with the Volta River Authority and they have all agreed to engage fisher folks from the various communities to remove the aquatic weeds manually and so by the end of August, fishermen will be using their canoes to clear the aquatic weeds from the Volta lake and the Volta River Authority will support the ministry to pay them,’ madam Ayittey stressed.
