FISH FARMERS IN GOMOA NYANYANO ARE LIVING IN DIFFICULTIES DUE TO BAD METHOD OF FARMING

Fish farmers in Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region have stated that, they are unable to catch more fish due to some bad practices of some fishermen in the area.

The chief fisherman of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nana Awotwe in an interview  this morning on’ Akuafo Si Sen’ a segment on Rite FM’s  morning show noted that some fishermen use light and dynamite in fishing to kill the fishes to enable them have more catch, which has been their headache for time now.

He stated that, his investigation has proven to him that, the use of light and dynamite have sent the fishes away from where they are supposed to do their fishing, ‘some of the fishes have also moved to the depth of the sea which really has brought hell unto us” He attributed.

This practice has led to low catch which has made our living here very difficult, we are unable to carter for our families since fish farming is their major occupation. He mourned

The untimely delivery of the premix fuel is also one of the challenges we are battling with but we are grateful to government for stabilizing the price of the premix fuel for about a year now. He added that since 2012 they have now received an outboard motor from government. He revealed.

He called on fisheries enforcement unit to come to their aid to eradicate this bad practices in Gomoa Nyanyano.
