Fatal Accident: MP calls on drivers to exercise caution.

The honourable Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi is calling on drivers plying the Odumase-Asesewa road to exercise caution to avert the rampant spate of accidents on the roads.

The MP’s call follows a tragic accident in a sharp curve at Asitey near Odumase Krobo Saturday night which claimed 7 lives and has left several others in critical condition.

The Daewoo saloon bus with registration number GV 2497 14 belonging to the Volta River Authority with 61 parishioners of the Saint Barbara Catholic church in Akosombo on board was returning to Akosombo from Akim Oda where they had attended a funeral.

Though the cause of the accident is not immediately known, eyewitnesses blamed the incident on mechanical fault. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and run into a ditch.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Atua Government Hospital, the St Martin De Porres Hospital, Agomanya and Koforidua Government hospital.

The MP who was on the scene to help with rescue operations said recklessness on the part of some drivers often resulted in accidents in the Asitey enclave.

Assembly man for Asitey electoral area, Foster Quarshie who was also on the scene and mobilized rescue efforts blamed the accident on mechanical fault.

An eyewitnesses who also helped in the rescue operation regretted the rampant spate of accidents on the road and called for more road signs to solve the problem.

The enclave which is riddled with several sharp curves has recorded several accidents over the years as many continue to perish.
