Fatal Accident: 4 Confirmed Dead As Several Others Sustained Injuries In Somanya

A report from Atua Government Hospital in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality confirmed that 4 persons have passed on following a head-on collision involving two vehicles, an Opel Astra and Hyundai minibus on the University of Environment and Sustainable Development junction near Akorley in Somanya.

According to Doctor Azure, the medical doctor on duty at the Emergency Unit when Rite FM’s Omanba Kodwo Boafo visited the hospital noted that, a total of 25 casualties were brought to the facility at the late evening.

“Three male children between the ages of 4 and 9 and a lady in her 30s have passed on. 21 passengers are alive, with some suffering minor and severe injuries,” Dr. Azure said.

The accident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday, 19 September, 2020 in Somanya – Accra Highway on the meeting point of the asphalt and the bitumen.

Seven victims who have either both legs, a leg or arm fractured were set to be referred to the Regional Hospital after receiving stabilization treatment at the Atua Government Hospital.

An eye witness report said the Hyundai heading towards Accra collided head-on with the Opel Astra after the former veered off its lane.

Speaking to the Hyundai driver’s mate on his hospital bed narrated that, he return to conscious only to note that something happened to him. According to him, his fare collection bag with moneys earned since morning and his mobile phone were missing.

A woman, 60, traveling along with her 3 years grandson from Juapong to Accra, have both sustained cut on their fore heads.

Calls to Somanya Police Command for details on the vehicles involved in the accidents proved futile.
