Farmers Worried over Rainfall pattern

Farmers located in the Afram Plains district of the Eastern Region are complaining bitterly over the low rainfall pattern this minor season.

Mr. Kwasi Amo, in an interview with the Rite fm morning show said indeed they were worried over the rainfall pattern which is negatively affecting their crop yield. He said they were expecting the rain to come as early as possible to enable them carried out their farm activities which has unfortunately delayed and this has prevented them from planting in August.

He was also of the concern that the rainfall pattern of the minor season is unlike the major season, falls for relatively shorter periods which end by the end of the month of November. He said therefore that if the current trend continues, “then most of our crops will go wasted.”

He further stated that, government must focus on the distribution of bulldozers to farmers as this will help boost their farming activities rather than the distribution of farm tractors. He also said the price of maize must be increased as it will help increase their livelihood and create more job opportunities for the youth.
