‘’Farmers must not take advantage of the climate change to apply fertilizer’’-Farmer Nelson

Farmers are been advised not to take advantage of their climate change to apply over fertilizers on their farms.

According to a former Agric director for Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the C.E.O of Annex ‘A’ enterprise, Mr. Nelson Asiedu even though this is the time farmers would have to apply fertilizer on their crops, but then, when the weeds are on the land and a farmer applies the fertilizer the weeds will likely take over the fertilizer, which means the fertilizer will be wasted.

He mentioned that during rainy seasons, farmers get excited and hurriedly apply fertilizer forgetting weeds can also germinate on the farm which will also disturb growth of the crops therefore, the weeds must be weeded off first before fertilizer application. He emphasized that farmers must visit their farms to weed once the sun begins to scorch.

Farmer Nelson also noted, chemicals are not needed for backyard gardens or small scale farm lands because the chemicals have effect on both the user and the land. So cautious measures must be taken when applying agrochemicals.

He therefore advised farmers not to use the chemicals in the afternoon because it has a negative impact on the sprayer.
