Farmers Day Celebration: We Are Looking Forward To A Woman Winning The Ultimate- NFFAWAG

In Ghana, the role of women in Agriculture cannot be underestimated as they constitute more than half of the Agriculture labour force, with most of them also involved in agro-processing, food distribution and producing a greater proportion of the country’s food requirements. Thus, women play a vital role in the economic and rural development which has a great impact on poverty reduction.

This according to the 2009 National Best Farmer who doubles as the Chairman of the National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana (NFFAWAG), Nene Davies Narh Koboe shows how effective and vibrant women are when it comes to agricultural development in Ghana.

The award winner in his speech during the maiden edition of Women In Food & Agriculture Leadership Forum (WOFAGRIC) & Gold in the Soil Awards organized by AGRIHOUSE FOUNDATION, MOFA, WIAD and NFFAWAG said the theme “ women key partners in shaping agribusiness is very appropriate as women have always been valuable partners in the agribusiness space contributing to reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

He said in recent years women have featured prominently in the National Farmers Day celebrations and always appearing in the top three Best farmers.

“We are looking forward to a woman winning the ultimate in subsequent years and I know they can so WOFAGRIC is therefore the occasion to recognize the achievement of women in the agricultural value chain” he stated. “this is also to pay tribute to the effort and contribution by women, young women entrepreneurs, female students and women with disability for their roles toward ensuring food security, poverty alleviation, empowerment and rewarding them accordingly” he added.

The Chairman of the Award Winners Association said their outfit is enthused to be part of the maiden edition of the Women In Food & Agriculture Leadership Forum (WOFAGRIC) & Gold in the Soil Awards.

“The National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association (NFFAWAG) is therefore very glad to be part of this laudable project, we believe the partnership with MOFA, WIAD, and AGRIHOUSE is going to be lasting one supporting women in agriculture to the highest level” he narrated.

Nene Davies Narh Koboe further urged Ghanaians to support women in agriculture to improve food crop production and job creation.
“ we urged all and sundry to rally behind our women in women in making sure they become more successful in the agriculture space” he appealed.
