Farmers At Their Wits End Over Bush Fires

Farmers, particularly cocoa farmers in Dwaboso in the Western Region are at their wits end and complaining bitterly regarding their cocoa farms which are being destroyed by the current spate of fires sweeping though certain parts of the country as a result of the harmmatan.

Nana Gyesi, who is a cocoa farmer at Dwaboso in the Western Region, in an interview revealed that, indeed cocoa farmers there really need help from the Government to help fight the spate of fires that are destroying their farmlands.

A worried Mr. Gyesi said they have no idea what the cause of the outbreaks is. He however suspected the cause to be coming from people who set fires to bushes and farms in search of game.

He pointed out that he and his colleague cocoa farmers have begun planting new cocoa seedlings and they are thus pleading for protection for this new cocoa farmlands to safeguard them from the fire outbreaks.

On the issue of fertilizers, Nana Gyesi noted that they were assured by authorities during the distribution of fertilizers that they have no side effects only for them to suffer some side effects after applying the said fertilizers.
