Farmers At Agomeda Express Frustration

By: Austin Ofori Addo

Farmers at Agomeda have out of frustration thrown a challenge to the authorities to pay deserved attention to them. This according to them is due to the fact that most farmers are not benefiting from the fertilizer subsidies which continue to affect their work.

In an interview with Rite news, the farmers said their main occupation was farming where they cultivate mangoes, maize, cassava among others. Despite this, they are still not able to adequately access fertilizer to boost their farm work.

They expressed frustration at the fact that they have to form and wait in long queues in Somanya waiting to get the fertilizers for their farms. To them, they don’t even know if the fertilizer subsidy is working.

They further noted that corporate institutions were ready to push a lot of money into beauty contests when these monies can be channeled into the agric sector such as fertilizer subsidy in order to support the small scale farmers.

But that is not all of their worries. The farmers also added that they don’t even have the means to buy basic farm implements such as a cutlass for their farm. This they blamed on the high cost of these implements.

Worse still is the price of chemicals for their farms. The farmers also expressed worry over the development where all of them have to rely on a single tractor to plough their farms. ‘We all have to chase one tractor and before we realize, the season is over,’ they lamented.
