Farmers advised to boycott G.M.O – Joseph Tonto

The President of Vegetables Producers and Export Association, Mr. Joseph Tonto has advised farmers not to buy the idea of Genetically Modified Organism (G.M.O) because, it will make farming difficult.

He questioned the reliability of seeds arriving timely to farmers citing current seed delays on improved varieties being sold in the market. Also he price of seeds keeps increasing yearly and this is a critical issue he said.

Speaking on Rite FM’s “Agric forum” program over the weekend, Mr. Tonto said, farmers will be adversely affected by the Plant Breeders bill adding that, the right of the farming will now lies in the hands of the importers.

 

Meanwhile, founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Kofi Wayo has stated that the decision to introduce GMO has been made already. He said Government and players in the market have already received funds that are binding thus no matter the opposition, G.M.O will be introduced.
