Farmers Advised To Adopt Green House Farming

By: Austin Ofori Addo:

Nana Akoto Bekoe a farmer in charge of the Akwadum Greenhouse Farms at Suhum in the Eastern Region has made a strong advocacy for Greenhouse Farming in the country. Nana Bekoe who made the call on Rite FM’s Agrotech Program noted that Greenhouse Farming was the best option since farmers now faced the challenge of the climate change.

Describing what a greenhouse is, Nana Akoto who was speaking with Edwin Larbi on Monday said that the Greenhouse is usually a piece of land designed within a relatively small area. The specially designed area gives out the best of plant harvest and good yield.

Elaborating further, he stressed that even the harvest from two acres of ordinary farmland cannot compare to a 90 by 60 size Greenhouse which is a relatively small area.

According to him, other advantages of a greenhouse include the fact that it prevents animals from attacking and destroying the crops whereas crops cultivated on ordinary farmlands are left to the mercy of these animals.

He was also emphatic that crops that would ordinarily last only a few months of harvesting last relatively longer, citing the case of tomatoes which according to him, could be harvested for nine months if cultivated in a greenhouse.
