Farmer Unity Essential To Fight Unpopular Political Decisions

Farmer Brown, a livestock farmer at Kosoa in the Central Region has made a passionate call to his colleague farmers to come together to fight against unpopular political decisions which are not in the interest of farmers. Mr. Brown who was speaking on the Akuafo Se Sen segment of the Rite Morning Ride on Friday noted that politicians have taken farmers for granted for far too long, a situation he maintains they can only fight on a united front.

A disgruntled Mr. Brown added that the blame from the dwindling agricultural sector should be laid squarely at the feet of farmers since they don’t stand united. According to him, there were currently about four farmer groups leading farmers in the country instead of one, a development he noted was a sign of their disunity.

Another headache to farmers, Mr. Brown added was the difficulties farmers had to go through in their attempt to access farm inputs for maximum productivity of their farms. He was worried that farmers in the country did not get inputs for their farms which are another contributory factor in the dwindling fortunes of the agric sector.

He said the distribution of a basic incentive live fertilizer for instance was very poor among others, adding that the fertilizers did not reach the farmers on time even though it is a major ingredient needed by the farmers to boost crop production.

On the climate change, he also lamented about the phenomenon which was bad news to farmers. He said animal farmers in particular suffered as they did not get enough feed to feed their animals.
